Seiko 5 Sports x Brian May ‘Red Special II’ Automatic Limited Edition Men’s Watch SRPH80K1 Following on from the successful collaboration with Queen guitarist Brian May in 2020, Seiko is proud to launch a new limited edition timepiece with the acclaimed musician, with just 12,500 pieces available worldwide. Brian has worn a Seiko diver’s watch for over 40 years, purchased on his first ever trip to Japan in the 1970s - since when his guitar and his watch have travelled the globe together, making great music, keeping great time. The latest gold colour accented design, inspired again by his ‘Red Special’ guitar, is inspired by the latest remastered Brian May solo albums within his 'Gold Series.' This timepiece features Brian’s signature on its clear caseback and comes with a special presentation box inspired by a guitar case, along with a commemorative lucky Sixpence which Brian uses instead of a plectrum. Its nylon strap is designed to emulate the guitar strings expertly played by Brian May. Proceeds from the sale of the watch will be donated to The Mercury Phoenix Trust founded by Brian May, Roger Taylor and their manager Jim Beach in memory of rock band Queen’s iconic lead singer Freddie Mercury. Seiko’s Seiko 5 Sports watches are known for over fifty years of reliability, durability, performance and value. ‘’5’’ represents the original five key features of every Seiko 5 still present today: Automatic movement, Day-date display, Water Resistance, Recessed crown and Durable construction. The Case: The Seiko 5 Sports x Brian May ‘Red Special II’ SRPH80K1 features a 40mm PVD gold plated stainless steel case. A black unidirectional rotating countdown bezel sits atop of the case, it exhibits a 60-minute scale in gold. The walls of the bezel are coined walls, which allows for it to be easily rotated. The crown is positioned at 4 o’clock in order to prevent it from digging into the wearer’s wrist; it is flanked by two crown guards. An exhibition caseback is present on the other side of the case, it provides the wearer with an insight into the mechanisms that power the watch. It also displays Brian May’s signature printed in gold and the limited edition number of the watch. The caseback is screwed down, which ensures that the watch remains water-tight. Hardlex crystal glass is used on both the front and the back of the case, providing the watch with protection against scratches and shattering. The Dial: The unique design of the dial is directly inspired by the design codes of Brian May’s guitar, ‘The Red Special’. It exhibits a glossy red and black backdrop that has a subtle grainy texture, imitating the distinctive wooden body of his guitar. A golden framed handset and hour markers are filled with Lumibrite material, ensuring that the dial can be read in the dark. A day-date display window replaces the 3 o’clock marker, whilst a 60-second track is located on the rehaut. The Strap: The ‘Red Special II’ is equipped with a black nylon NATO strap that is designed to emulate the guitar strings played by Brian May. The Functions: This timepiece features Seiko’s new upgraded 4R36 automatic. The movement consists of 24 jewels and it operates at 21,600 beats per hour, offering a 40 hours of power reserve and an accuracy of +45 / -35 seconds per day. It has a water resistance of 100 metres, making it suitable for swimming and snorkelling. Links: If you have any questions please click here Click here to join our facebook and Instagram !
