RADIAL SPANGLE Raze 12"" vinyl 1992 new unplayed Mercury Rev Flaming Lips indie

Radial Spangle 'Raze'

Radial Spangle, led by Alain Laird, were from Oklahoma, where the leading local band was The Flaming Lips.

They came to the attention of Flaming Lips / Mercury Rev's Jonathan Donahue, who took them under his wing and brought them to the attention of his label, Mint/Jungle in London.  Mint had just signed Mercury Rev to Beggars Banquet, and a joint Mint/Beggars Banquet deal was arranged.

The debut album 'Ice Cream Headache' from which 'Raze' was taken, was recorded by Flaming Lips and Mercury Rev producer Dave Fridmann in Buffalo.  It featured Psychedelic Furs guitarist guesting.  Radial Spangle went on to record a second album for Beggars/Mint, 'Syrup Macrame'
