BBC TV Railway Roundabout 1962 DVD Ian Allan/BBC DVD 2006

BBC TV's ' Railway Roundabout  1962 ' DVD.

'' Extracts from the BBC railway magazine programme in the period just before Beeching takes hold. This one follows the pattern of earlier DVDs, a mix of about to disappear branch lines (in this case the IOW), the emerging preservation and heritage movement, and finally (and unfortunately not highly regarded) record of main line operation as the new diesel locos displaced the age of steam.

Contains features on the following:

Isle of Wight steam (part in colour)

Preserved Jones Goods (yet again!)

Midland Railway (and LTSR) preserved locos on a day out to Wirksworth

Early days of the Bluebell Line

Cambrian Coast Express (Colour)

Swindon Works

Seaton junction on the West of England ex LSWR line

Can You Guess feature - bits of unused film that were used for a quiz at the end of programmes.

A fascinating DVD and as with all this series the photographic quality is excellent ''
