Product Description

Prunus Brilliant is an ornamental tree specimen with deciduous foliage and eye-catching flower blooms. Known as "alpine cherry", these trees develop fantastic rusty-bronze leaves at the beginning of spring, the foliage matures into a dark green before finishing off the year as a fiery orange/red. The flowers of this variety bloom from April until June and produce an abundance of attractive pinkish-white flowers. The flowers of this tree have to be sheltered from the wind. It is very hardy and does not require pruning. Any overextended shoots can be lightened to form a dense crown. Keep in mind that this plant only blooms on older wood. Plant in well-drained, moist soils and position in a full sun or partially shaded area. Once planted, monitor the area around for any competing weeds. Once this plant is established, it will require only a small amount of care as they are extremely hardy, tolerating poor soils as well as drought and hot or cold conditions. Please Note: Images are for illustrative purposes only and designed to be a representation of the item(s) being sold. Depending on seasonality, deciduous plants may be supplied in their dormant state and without leaves. Plants may also be pruned back, lower than stated heights, to encourage new growth. Prunus Brilliant, known commonly as an 'alpine cherry', is an attractive ornamental tree with deciduous foliage and eye catching flowers. The leaves of this tree initally devlop as a shiny bronze before maturing to a dark green, this eventually becomes a fiery orange to red colour during autumn. From April until June, an abundance of bright pink/white flowers begin to bloom, these beautiful flowers are very popular with pollinators such as bees. This variety can be grown in almost any kind of soil condition, though it very much prefers well-drained and/or moist soils, perfect for planting in chalky, loam, sandy or clay. This tree loves to be planted in an area that gets either plenty of sun or just a little bit of shade, more sun means a higher chance of the foliage sticking around through winter. Once established, these trees become fairly low maintenance. Due to being deciduous, they require little or no pruning - Just clip away any uneven or extra-long branches if necessary. If planting in Spring or Summer, water well and regularly for the first few months. If planting in Autumn, little watering is required. Make sure not to over-hydrate and don't let the soil dry out during the warmer months. Prunus 'Brilliant' is a fantastic ornamental specimen with sharp looking foliage and eye-catching flower blooms, it can be planted with minimal fuss and once established, requires very little maintenance, a perfect addition to a small garden or patio.
