Product Description

This Platycodon Pink plant has a compact, clump-forming habit that suits borders, rock gardens and pots. New blue-green foliage emerges in spring and is followed by large balloon-shaped buds, which pop open to reveal beautiful pink star-shaped flowers. The flowers are long lasting, blooming through autumn, and measure around 5cm. Long stems produce lance-shaped toothed leaves and can grow quite tall, making them perfect for adding height to flower beds. Commonly known as the Balloon Flower due to its large round buds, Platycodon Pink is a low maintenance perennial that will return year after year. It flourishes in a full sun or partially shaded spot, and does best in a moist but well-drained soil composed of Loam. Add mulch during the winter months and the plant will withstand even the coldest UK temperatures. The long stems and pretty blooms of the Balloon Flower make them a popular choice with flower arrangers. For longer lasting indoor blooms, cut when still at the bud stage and watch the flowers open up. Singe the bottom of the stem with a match before placing in water. This prevents the milky sap contaminating the water and helps prolong flowering. Please Note: When purchasing plants please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only - The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves. Characteristics: Delicate pale pink flowers and interesting blue-green foliage make this herbaceous perennial the ideal addition to any outdoor space. Growth and Spread: Ultimate height and spread of up to 0.5m. Care and Maintenance: Generally easy to care for. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage prolonged flowering and cut down to the base in autumn to make way for fresh growth in spring. Period of Interest: Summer flowering with blooms lasting through autumn. Top Tip: Long stems can be staked or pruned to prevent flopping.
