Acer palmatum Summer Gold is a deciduous shrub that, in Spring, bears small green flowers alongside pink foliage. This then changes to a lime green-yellow and red-edged look in Summer, before rounding off its annual show of colour with a mix of yellow, orange and red in Autumn. This slow-growing plant will also produce red fruit in Autumn, giving it plenty of character when it reaches its ultimate height and spread of 1.5m - 2.5m. Acers can be cared for with relative ease. Plant in an area of partial shade and aim to avoid long periods of exposure to full sunlight. It can tolerate most soil types, requiring you keep it moist, well-drained and ensure watering is kept to a regular, consistent level.
